l Laboratory soil test
includes the tests for he physical indexes,
mechanical property indexes, and dynamic property of soil, and mineral
analysis of clay.
l Laboratory rock test
includes tests for water-physical property, rock strength and deformation,
shearing strength of rock structure surface, shear creep of rock soft layers,
point load strength of rock, etc.
Chapter One
Physical property Test of soil
1.
Particle size analysis
l For fractions
d>0.075mm, sieving method is applied;
l For fractions
d<0.075mm, hydrometer method and pipette method are applied.
1)
Sieving
method
Weighed
sample is put onto the top sieve which has the biggest screen openings. Each
lower sieve in the column has smaller openings than the one above. Do sieving
then,The weight of the sample of each sieve is then divided by the total weight
to give a percentage retained on each sieve.
2)
Hydrometer
method
It
is applied to determine the content of the soils whose grain size is smaller
than a certain diameter value.
Here
d----sample grain diameter (mm);
Ƞ --- dynamic viscosity coefficient of
water
GWT-- water proportion
at T℃
PWT-- -density of pure
water at 4℃(g/cm3)
L --- settlement distance of soil grain within
a period(cm)
T--- settlement time (S)
g---
gravitational acceleration
